First Spring 2020
An explosion of flowers in spring.
A real delight.
Also have dark green leaves that turn attractive shades of purple and bronze in autumn.

I also have a white Deutzia (planted in the ground - east facing). Because it was grown in pots and the branches were very low and twisted (they touched the ground), after the flowers withered I decided to cut it back short (for reshape).

Spring 2021

Well......the white Deutzia which was pruned last year (after the flowers withered) performing better this spring. It made a lot of flowers.

This year I still won't prune Deutzia Yuki Cherry Blossom, I'll just cut a few branches for good ventilation and shape. I want to let it to hang (it's in the pot).

Pruning Deutzia

All type of Deutzia have the same pruning requirement as they flower on wood growths made in the last year growing season. Deutzia don't make flowers from the current year's growth.
All deutzia should be pruned immediately after the flowers have finished. If you prune them too late after flowering (late summer or autumn), then they will not have enough time to produce their new stems( which will be the flowering stems for the next year).
Do not prune in the winter if you want flowers next year.

I'm a little susceptible to how (or if) to prune Deutzia because I've noticed a very slow growth of the plant, and the idea is to have as long branches as possible that flow like a waterfall.
Anyway, I didn't cut back the pink one (in the pot) at all. Let's see how it blooms next spring.
