The leaves will begin to turn yellow naturally, at which point watering should be reduced.
Dig up perennial tuberous begonias in the garden after the first frost of autumn, when the plants have gone into dormancy.
Leave a small amount of soil around each tuber.
Remove leaves and damaged stems.
Set the tubers out to dry, usually about a week.
Cut off the stems about 1 inch above the tubers.
Trim roots back and then place the begonia tubers in separate paper bags filled with peat moss, wood shavings or vermiculite.
Store them during the winter in a location where the temperature does not dip below 7 C.
Start growing in early spring, plant outside after frost.
